--- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Describes an alternative wheelchair on a low stand, operated with a hand crank. Chair made of an office swivel chair fastened to a heavy plywood base supported on a steel tube frame; there are two fixed wheels in back ( the wheels fit underneath the frame) and one wheel in the front used to steer and propel the chair from post by the rider's knee. A vertical drive shaft motivated by a crankhandle runs down the post and rotates the front wheel through a bevel gear train. The rider can swivel the chair to fit it under a table.
