CUSTOM ADAPTATION PURPOSE: To provide a custom tilt seat for a powered wheelchair. Accelerated Rehab in Texas creates after market seating systems for wheelchairs. A system that meets the needs of the user is created to fit any wheelchair to custom measurements. The existing tilt seat no longer provided sufficient support for the user. The new seat was taller and an adjustable headrest was added to the back. The adjustments were made using a J2 back. Flip-up armrests and new footrest hangers were also added as part of the system. A switch mounted near the wheelchair joystick controller operates the front and back tilt of the seat. The seating system attaches to the chair with a clamp on the front cross member and a new bolt on the rear cross member. As the seat operates, the front of the seat frame and the rear of the base plate are the pivot points. The seat is equipped with two levers that push the front of the seat upward as the as the seat is pushed forward. The rear of the seat moves on sliders on a rail. Two standoffs in the front support the seat in the upright position. A lockout switch prevents the chair from being driven while the seat is tilted. POWER: Uses the chair charger port to run 24 volts at 10 amps. TITLE: Tilt Seat. REF: http://www.wheelchairmodifications.org.
