The Accessible Entry System, model AES 2000, is a building entry system designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The system includes a large print and voice output tenant directory with both written and verbal operating instructions. The system's visual display uses half-inch high black characters against a back-lit green background. The system incorporates the etched tactile diamond shaped EZ Help system developed by the University of Wisconsin TRACE Center. Pressing the diamond button provides verbal instructions, which are professionally recorded with clear diction and played at a moderate cadence. As the user presses each button, the voice announces that particular button's use and operation. Etched tactile up and down buttons allow the user to scroll backwards and forwards through the tenant directory, first by letter of the alphabet, and then by individual tenant name. Each tenant's name is read aloud as the user scrolls. The tenant name can be recorded using the building manager's voice, or the tenant's actual voice. A separate button is provided to increase or decrease volume. Once the correct tenant is located, the user presses the call button and the system dials the tenant's phone. The verbal recording continues to inform the visitor of the call's progress. The system is also text telephone(TTY/TDD) compatible. By plugging a portable text telephone into the system, the visitor can generate a call to a building tenant and communicate standard TTY keyboard entries. For accessibility to visitors who use wheelchairs, the system can be mounted at the height recommended in ADA (American with Disabilities Act) guidelines for physical design and accessibility. POWER: Uses 120-volt slternsting current; an adapter is included. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 12.5 x 9.75 x 4.25 inches (surface mount) or 15 x 12.5 x 3.5 inches (flush mount). Display characters are 0.5 inch high. COLORS: Display characters are black on a green background.
