The eSlate Disabled Access Unit, model DAU 5000, is a voice output and switch-accessible voting machine designed for use by voters who are blind or have low vision or who have severe physical or upper extremity disabilities. This voting machine has interfaces for head movement and sip and puff switches, which enable individuals with severe physical disabilities to cast their ballot using only head movement or their breath. An audio ballot reader includes audible signals that provide confirmation with each selection. The machine's navigation method is modeled after systems commonly used by people with disabilities. All disability features can be used interchangeably, in whole or part, with the voting machine's standard interfaces.
