DO IT YOURSELF ENTRYPURPOSE: To enable individuals with neurological or balance disabilities to work at multiple production workbenches. For individuals with balance and neurological disabilities, standing or sitting on high stools to perform production work is often not an option. To create this adaptation, a shop-quality operator's chair on a star-shaped pedestal base was selected to be secured to a custom platform. The wooden platform was constructed to raise the chair to the appropriate height for the shop's workbenches, while enabling the user to keep both feet flat on the platform. The chair was mounted to the platform to prevent it from sliding off, the edges of the platform were painted safety yellow, and non-skid tape was applied to the foot area of the platform for safety. In order for the user to work at different workbenches, the unit was designed for portability, with a handle at one end and casters on the other, The unit could be then tipped up and rolled to another location much like a dolly.
