Health Care

Medicare Faire

Network of Care for Seniors and People with Disabilities

10:00am

Categories:

A Medicare Health Fair for seniors and other beneficiaries is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 14, at the NorthBay Healthcare Administration Center in Fairfield.
Sponsored by the University of the Pacific (UOP) Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and hosted by NorthBay Healthcare, it is an opportunity for seniors to get advice on Medicare Part D and have their medications reviewed for safety. Medicare Part D, also called the Medicare prescription drug benefit, is the government program to subsidize the costs of prescription drugs and prescription drug insurance premiums for Medicare beneficiaries.
Free health screenings will check for high blood pressure, anemia, bone density, cholesterol, diabetes, and asthma/COPD. A Falls Risk Assessment and mental health screenings are also offered. The event is open to the entire community.
?Our Endocrinology practice knows too well how reaching the Medicare coverage gap known as the ?donut hole? can affect a person?s health,? said Dr. Miya Allen, an endocrinologist at the NorthBay Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. ?Some of my patients in this gap decide to either ration their insulin or stop it all together.
?The medication review provided at this event can help people find ways to manage or side-step the explosive cost of prescription drugs.?
The pharmacists help patients by identifying possible generic drug alternatives, connecting beneficiaries to patient assistance programs and reviewing their medications for potentially dangerous drug interactions, she added.
NorthBay Healthcare Administration Center is located at 4500 Business Center Drive in Fairfield. Participants should bring their Medicare card and all of their medications. Appointments are recommended and can be made by calling (707) 624-8230.

Shared Adventures Day On the Beach

Network of Care for Seniors and People with Disabilities

10:00am

Categories:

Day on the Beach is the highlight of each year, when more than 300 people with special needs, 400+ family members and friends, and over 250 enthusiastic volunteers team up to share a full day of adaptive sports?kayaking, outrigger canoeing, SCUBA diving, beach wheelchair rides?and life-changing memories. Day on the Beach has given participants and volunteers an unforgettable experience of breaking through barriers to see dreams become reality.

Our generous volunteers lay down over 170 pieces of plywood on frames, creating a unique 5,700 square foot platform on the sand that enables those with mobility issues to travel over it with ease to participate in all of our activities. We also offer beach wheelchair rides?an opportunity to explore the beach in a whole new way.

Every year, we offer free live music and entertainment, free food, sandcastle building, and so much more. Participants of all ages?from four to 83 so far?have traveled from all around the country to attend. We hope you?ll take advantage of this special event, and to see you at the beach!

Pre-Registration is required for Day on the Beach. Sign up on online for ocean activities or to join the beach party!
