Perez charged of sexual crime at nursing home

Altus Times - 7/20/2017

According to Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy, a man was arrested late Monday evening after a felony arrest warrant was issued through the Jackson County District Court on a charge of sexual battery.

70-year old, Manuel Gonzales Perez was taken into custody at his home in the 1200 block of Asalee Street around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Altus police were called to the Plantation Village Nursing Center at 2610 Cedar Creek Drive around 1 p.m. Sunday after a resident was reportedly sexually assaulted at the nursing center.

An employee at Plantation Village told police that she was attempting to locate the victim when she found the victim with Perez, who was holding her wrist and standing over her while zipping up his pants. The patient was confined to a wheelchair.

According to the witness, Perez seemed startled and nervous. He immediately began walking away when the witness confronted him about what he was doing.

Police found that Perez was visiting another female patient and resident of the nursing facility.

Police made contact with Perez in the parking lot of Walmart at 2500 N. Main in Altus after an employee from Plantation Village Nursing Center notified the police he was seen there around 8 p.m.

Investigators have conducted interviews with witnesses and Perez and have collected potential evidence.

Perez is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail on a $75,000 bond and has been instructed to stay out of all nursing facilities if the bond is made.
