New program aims to give senior citizens a lift

Deseret News - 10/22/2017

PROVO - Utah Valley Rides, a program that provides reliable transportation to senior citizens and people with disabilities in Provo and Orem, is rolling forward.

The program, which was 20 years in the making, allows qualifying participants to schedule rides to the doctor's office, grocery store or anywhere else they need to go. Rides are available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and vans are equipped to transport passengers with mobility devices.

The program is staffed by volunteers and funded by UTA, Mountainland Association of Governments and United Way of Utah County. There is a recommended $2 donation per trip, but all qualifying riders will be accommodated. Residents over 70 years of age or those with disabilities who meet UTA's reduced fare requirements are eligible to participate.
