Celebrate longest day of year at Rufty-Holmes

Salisbury Post - 6/21/2018

Rufty-Holmes Senior Center will celebrate the longest day of the year, Thursday, with a party from sunrise to sunset.

Rufty-Holmes and area partners want to honor and bring awareness to caregivers caring for those with Alzheimer's, who often have very long days of caregiving to support and care for their loved ones with dementia-related diseases.

Check out the rockers who are rocking in chairs from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association to help find a cure. The Mu Chapter of the Gamma Theta Sisters of NC Alpha Delta Kappa is hosting the Rock-a-thon in the outside pavilion at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center. There will be extra rocking chairs to rock along.

Music, food and various activities are planned. Wear purple is support of Alzheimer's awareness. Events take place rain or shine.

7:45 a.m. - Standing Yoga in the covered pavilion, open to all ages. Begin your day with a good stretch.

9 a.m. -7 p.m. - Live musicians and DJs will entertain. Bring a chair, sit in the shade and enjoy.

9 a.m.-4 p.m. - Lemonade stand for caregivers; local agency reps will share resources and available assistance for local caregivers and those who may need caregiver resources in the future.

9:30 a.m.-noon - Trunk Treasures Yard Sale. Vendors will sell their wares in the back parking lot.
