BRIEF: Carlinville nursing home agrees to reduced fine after patient injuries

The State Journal-Register - 7/25/2018

July 25--A Carlinville nursing home has agreed to pay a reduced fine after being cited by the Illinois Department of Public Health for failing to prevent two patients from falling in February and March.

Friendship Skilled Nursing and Rehab, a 49-bed skilled-care facility at 826 N. High St., originally was fined $25,000, according to documents from Public Health.

Both patients required hospital care after the falls. One resident suffered multiple facial fractures and a head injury, while the other received a cut that required seven stitches to close, a Public Health report said.

The for-profit facility agreed at a hearing to settle the case by paying a reduced fine of $12,500, Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said. Friendship Skilled Nursing didn't admit fault in the settlement.

Officials from the nursing home and its parent company, Covenant Care in California, either were unavailable for comment or didn't return return a phone call seeking comment.
