Oliver's Painted Chair celebrates Community Living Month with BBQ, live demo

Penticton Western News - 10/4/2018

The Painted Chair is celebrating Community Living Month in Oliver on Oct. 5 with a BBQ and live demonstration.

The Oliver-based company run by Mayor Ron Hovanes and his wife, Tara, works with people with disabilities to repurpose donated furniture. The store also sells consignment clothing items. Program participants receive profits from sales made by the store to supplement their monthly disability pension.

Attendees of the event, which will be hosted at the store at 5857 Sawmill Road, can receive a burger or hot dog by donation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A formal presentation and cake cutting will follow.

During the event, local artists will work with participants to create unique pieces of art painting chairs that will be available for purchasing at the end of the day. The Painted Chair will also be offering a 2-for-1 sale on clothing, shoes, and purses and select furniture items will be marked down.
