Audience: Licensed Family Home Child Care Providers, Center-Based Child Care Providers, License Exempt Providers, and Parents are welcome.

Children with special needs often present with challenging behaviors. These behaviors may interfere with the education and care of other children and stretch the resources and patience of Child Care Providers.

Join Kristi Miller, Senior Clinical Director with Juvo Autism and Behavioral Health, to explore the commonalities of problem behavior and the related gaps in skills. She will provide general guidelines in addressing problem behavior and teach you skills to remedy them.

Nature Walk: Spring Birds of Lake Solano Park

California is located along migration routes for many songbirds. At Lake Solano, a wide array of habitats means that visitors can observe a diverse assortment of birds and other wildlife. On this tour, we'll observe year-round residents and migratory visitors while taking in the natural beauty of Lake Solano Park. Loaner binoculars will be available. These activities are appropriate for all ages, and families and groups are welcome. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. Advance registration is recommended but not required. The day's activities are free, and parking is $6 per vehicle payable at the east entrance to the Park. Directions: Lake Solano Park straddles Pleasants Valley Road, north of Vacaville and near the town of Winters. Pay the $6 parking free and park on the east-side of Pleasants Valley Rd. and meet at the Nature Center on the west side of road.

Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs, with a majority of abused prescription drugs obtained from family and friends and often from the home medicine cabinet. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides and opportunity to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. Solano County has scheduled several agencies to accept these medications wastes on Saturday April 28th. Remember to seal all liquids and creams and remove personal information. See the flyer for all locations. Locations: Benicia Police Department, Dixon Police Department, Rio Vista Police Department, Solano County Sheriff, 60th Wing Travis Air Force Base, Vacaville Police Department, and Vallejo Police Department.

Wildflowers & Water Critters Walk

Jepson Prairie Preserve is one of California?s best remaining examples of a vernal pool ecosystem and native grassland prairie. Dry and dormant most of the year, the prairie is transformed by winter rains into a tapestry of stunning colors, and its vernal pools host a rich diversity of rare aquatic life. Enjoy an easy guided walk which may include portions of the Preserve that are only accessible with a Jepson Prairie docent. Learn about vernal pools and see the aquatic invertebrate and flowering plants that depend on them. Expect a slow pace and meandering route with lots of opportunities to bend down and look at tiny wildflowers. All ages are welcome. It is often windy. The preserve is a working ranch with free-range sheep. There is no drinking water. In order to protect endangered species and sensitive habitat, dogs are not allowed. Bring a backpack with plenty of water and snacks and/or a picnic lunch. Wear boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes, preferably ones that are waterproof, layered clothes, and protection from the elements?sun (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), wind, fog, rain. You may also want to bring a hand lens, binoculars and a camera. Rain may cancel. Free but a donation is requested. Directions: Cook Lane off Highway 113 South 12 miles south of Dixon.

Finally! Effective and quickly learned Self Defense and Safety techniques.

Beginning level classes starting April 9th, 2018. Enrollment open. Attend the entire series or drop in.

Adult family members encouraged to attend together. This is a progressive series of self defense classes that will increase your ability to defend against a wide range of dangers. This is not a Martial Arts class. This is way beyond Martial Arts. You'll leave with powerful skills after the first class. These classes will change your life.

This is not a workout or exercise class. People of all physical abilities are welcome. You do not have to be strong to effectively put down attackers.

This series will run April 9 to May 28 2018. You can come and observe 30 minutes of any class for $0.

Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano will be taking CalFresh applications at the Fairfield Civic Center Library's outreach table in the front lobby on the first Wednesday of each month. Se habla espanol. Also, learn how you can volunteer at the Food Bank. For more information, contact the Food Bank at 1-925-603-3316.

According to the State of California's website, "CalFresh (federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) is a federally mandated, state-supervised, and county-operated government entitlement program that provides monthly food benefits to assist low-income households in purchasing the food they need to maintain adequate nutritional levels. In general, these benefits are for any food or food product intended for human consumption and can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table. If you are finding it difficult to afford the nutritious food that you and your family needs, the CalFresh Program may be able to help you."
