Wish granted for Palm Coast boy living with cerebral palsy

News-Journal - 1/16/2019

Jan. 16--Eight-year-old Phillip Neal may have cerebral palsy but that hasn't stopped him from dreaming of one day becoming a law enforcement officer so he can "catch the bad guys and eat doughnuts," according to a media release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

On Jan. 10, the Sheriff's Office collaborated with the Kids Wish Network and the Palm Coast Dunkin' Donuts to grant Phillip's wish for the day and to present him with a special gift: a trip to Disney World.

During the special police-themed wish-reveal inside the Dunkin Donuts on Old Kings Road, Phillip was named an "honorary deputy" by Sheriff Rick Staly and he also received a year's supply of doughnuts, a backpack full of Police Athletic League goodies, an Sheriff's Office tumbler and hat, an honorary deputy and a special FCSO Centennial Challenge Coin.

Cerebral palsy is the result of a combination of events either before, during or after birth that can lead to an injury in a baby's developing brain, according to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation. The lifelong condition is marked by impaired muscle coordination (spastic paralysis) and/or other disabilities.

"When I heard Phillip's story, I knew that we wanted to be a part of making his wish come true," Sheriff Rick Staly said in the release. "I am honored to be a part of this very special reveal for Phillip and his family. I hope they have a wonderful time in Disney World."

The Kids Wish Network granted Phillip's wish to visit Disney World. The Kids Wish Network provides trip expenses, meals, accommodations and additional spending money to all wish families whenever traveling is applicable.
