Moberly Monitor-Index & Democrat - 1/16/2018

Jan. 16--The Moberly City Council will meet 5:30 p.m. today in the City Council Room at Moberly City Hall, 101 West Reed Street.

Items on the agenda include a request to hold the first annual Autism Awareness 5k walk/run on April 7. The event, if approved, would begin at the Riley Pavilion and travel through roads near Rothwell Park to end at the pavilion.

Police have been requested to assist with the event, which will be held for Autism Awareness Month in April.

Council members are also expected to decide on an ordinance that would affect parking on Gilman Road and South Fourth Street. The parking change is related to an effort to reduce traffic issues at South Park School.

An agreement with a local developer , in which upon execution the city would furnish improvements to a potential 50 lot development, is on the agenda. Approximately 20 acres owned by Donald E. Mutter would be annexed and sewer service would be provided to the property line and Terrill Road extended to the property.

According to city documents, Mutter plans to move forward with phase one of a 50 lot development this winter.

Council members are expected to vote on an agreement for the 2018 Independence Day fireworks display. J&M Displays would provide the show at a cost of $20,000.

City officials said J&M Displays has provided the show for many years and will provide several thousand dollars worth of bonus fireworks. City officials had budgeted $25,000 for the display in 2018. The remaining $5,000 will be used for musical entertainment.

Council members are expected to vote on a hold harmless agreement with Moberly Area Community College concerning the city firearm range.

According to city documents, the city and the college have partnered on use of the range for many years. The agreement is renewed annually to limit city liability in relation to risks associated with the range.

A work session is slated following the meeting. Items on the work session agenda include Oakland Cemetery grave opening and closing bids and discussion of water/sewer rates outside city limits.

Two closed session items are also on the agenda -- a personnel matter and a real estate matter.

With the exception of the closed session items, the meeting is open to the public.
