Jimmy Graves Foundation conducts football camp

Stuart News - 3/14/2018

VERO BEACH -- The Jimmy Graves Foundation recently scored a touchdown with Heisman Trophy winner and NFL great Doug Flutie at a free football camp for athletes ages 6 – 16.

The day-long camp featured Flutie, athletic trainers from Relentless and local high school football coaches. More than 150 players registered for the event.

Flutie was happy to partner with the foundation to share his football knowledge and his passion for guiding children to become productive citizens.

"I'm glad to have a chance to work with kids, being around them and doing it for the foundation – it's a win-win for everybody," he said. "But you don't have to talk me into running around and picking up a ball -- that's a no-brainer."

There was a no-contact session and instructions by Flutie and coaches, as well as an inspirational talk by foundation founder Joe Graves. Campers had an opportunity to see the Heisman Trophy, get autographs and ask questions.

The foundation was created in honor of Jimmy Graves, a local 15-year-old who died in a boating accident in 2016. Joe Graves described his son as a light in the community, "Jimmy lived a great life and set a great example for many. The foundation is just a reflection of him."
