Education briefs: Kindergarten transition parent meetings

March 17--The Autism Project and 4-H

DECATUR -- Linda Tortorelli, director of The Autism Project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will discuss tips and strategies for successful inclusion in Macon County 4-H programs for all participants, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at the Macon County Extension office, 3351 N.President Howard Brown Boulevard, Decatur.

Kindergarten transition parent meetings

DECATUR -- Free events for families of children going into kindergarten will be held at several locations.

Each event begins with parent presentations and activities for children at 5:30 p.m., with free dinner 5:50 to 6:10 p.m. and a family activity until 6:30 p.m.

Dates and locations are Tuesday, March 20 and Tuesday, April 24 at Pershing Early Learning Center, 2912 N. University; and Thursday, May 17 at Richland Community College.

Conservation field trip transportation

DECATUR -- Decatur Audubon Society and Macon County Conservation Foundation will cover bus transportation costs for 20 school buses to allow students to take field trips to Rock Springs Nature Center or any of the five Macon County Conservation Areas.

Any school in Macon County, and schools that serve students who live in Macon County, is eligible to apply for a grant on a first-come, first served basis. Contact Richie Wolf, Rock Springs Center manager, (217) 423-7708.

High school job expo returns

DECATUR -- A job expo for Decatur's public high school students will be 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Eisenhower High School and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at MacArthur High School.

Project Linus Kids' Choice winners

FORSYTH -- Fifth-grade students at Maroa-Forsyth Grade School voted for their favorite quilts made by Project Linus Blanketeers prior to the group's Make a Blanket Day on March 10.

The winners were Deb Tener, first place; Amber Thiebaud, second; and Deanna Williams, third.

Blanketeers voted for their favorites on March 10 by paying $1 per vote to support Project Linus, and those winners were Diane Daly, first; Juanita O'Neill, second; Debbie Derr-Weaver, third; and Debbi Dillman, honorable mention.

Quilts were also judged and Best of Show winner was Kate Laskowski; Blanket Statement, or most creative use of theme, was Debbie Derr-Weaver; Debbi Dillman, first place; Becky Smith, second; Kim Lytle, third; Deb Tener and Ruth Wright, honorable mentions.
