News-Sentinel - 7/12/2018

July 12--Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control will partner with Fort Wayne Autism Center to offer a special two-day summer camp for children with learning challenges or disabilities.

The Pets for All Summer Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noonAug. 3-4 at the animal shelter, 3020 Hillegas Road.

Registration is $50 per camper. Each child will be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the camp.

While attending, youngsters will learn about the animal shelter and help with animals being cared for there, a shelter news release said. Children also will learn how to be a responsible pet owner and how to be safe around animals.

"Pets for All Summer Camp is an incredible opportunity bringing together the trained staff at Fort Wayne Autism Center and our Humane Education staff for a unique and fulfilling opportunity for all children," Holly Pasquinelli, Animal Care & Control community relations and education specialist, said in the news release.

"This camp has been designed to also provide social opportunities, guidance with animal interaction and to teach compassion and empathy through responsible pet ownership -- skills that we think are super valuable for young learners of all developmental levels!"
