Deming Headlight - 10/11/2018

Oct. 10--DEMING -- Teresa Seats was on her final frame during the Special Olympics Regional Bowling Tournament at the Starmax Family Entertainment Center back on Sept. 29. The Deming Roadrunner bowler was the lone individual on the lanes with another team that was finishing out their frames.

Her first ball was a strike, and she drew sparse applause from the the small crowd that stayed around for the conclusion.

Five teams were entered in the tournament and about 90 Special Olympic families participated in the event.

Seats tossed a second strike and the applause grew to cheers, along with the curious crowd.

Starmax also features a six-screen movie complex, a bar and grill, video arcade and an indoor miniature golf venue. Many of the guests began to take notice at the commotion coming from the bowling lanes.

Seats lined up her bonus ball to finish out the round. The silence from the crowd created tension. She began her approach and sent the final ball down the lane. The crack of the ball striking pins sent an echo through the building as all 10 pins tumbled onto the lane.

A crescendo of cheer cascaded into the bowling center.

It was a "Turkey" (three strikes in a row). Seats had accomplished a milestone that had eluded her in four years as a member of the Roadrunners.

More importantly, Seats and her Roadrunner teammates qualified for state competition in BernalilloNov. 9-11. All teams that participated in the regional tournament qualified for state.
