Man accused of molesting child

Aug. 23--Marcus Padgett, 64, of Hamrick Road, Moorseboro, is accused of molesting a girl under the age of 13 at least four times over a two week period in August.

Court records indicate Padgett also made sexual advances on the child at other points between Aug. 7 and 21.

During his first appearance in Cleveland County Court on Thursday, Padgett told the court he didn't understand what he was being charged with.

"I've never been in trouble," he said.

Padgett is held in Cleveland County Jail on a $2 million bond.
