Man accused of molesting child

Sep. 10--A 58-year-old man is accused of molesting a 9-year-old child starting in May.

Michael Dean Smart, of Stagecoach Trail, Polkville, was arrested on Sunday after an investigation by the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

Smart is accused of engaging in multiple sex acts with the young girl between May 1 and Aug. 30.

During his first appearance on Monday, the man kept his head down and answered questions about his living situation briefly.

He is charged with two counts of statutory rape of a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child.

Smart is in Cleveland County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
