Central Pa. man charged with sexual abuse of 4 teenagers over decades

Patriot-News - 4/25/2024

A 59-year-old Lancaster County man is facing 18 charges, including rape and aggravated indecent assault, after police say he raped and sexually abused four females for years.

Amos Ebersol, of Ephrata, was charged with three counts each of rape by forcible compulsion, aggravated indecent assault, contact/communication with a minor – sexual offenses, and related charges.

He waived his preliminary hearing last week, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office said.

Ephrata police began investigating a sexual assault report in October involving Ebersol after a Children and Youth report said he had inappropriate contact with a girl by touching her breasts over her clothing, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Three other women then came forward to say Ebersol had abused them when they were teenagers, the affidavit said.

The abuse took place from 2006 to 2022, according to court documents, when the women were ages 14 to 20. They told investigators they were forced to have sexual intercourse with the man dozens of times.

A husband of one of the women said he was at a meeting where his wife confronted Ebersole, who admitted to sexually assaulting the four. “I didn’t think it was that bad,” Ebersole reportedly said.

Ebersol is scheduled to be arraigned on May 10.
