Man sentenced to six years for domestic battery

The Jonesboro Sun - 1/5/2018

HARRISBURG - A Poinsett County man was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to second-degree domestic battery.

Steve Allen Price, 41, had two other charges - aggravated assault and violating a domestic order of protection -nolle prosequi. Price was also given a 10-year suspended sentence, according to court records.

On July 4, 2017, authorities responded to a domestic call at a home in the 3400 block of Capps Road in Marked Tree, according to a Poinsett County Sheriff's Office incident report. Price's wife said the couple got into an argument about his Xanax pills, which he thought she took, according to the report.

During the altercation, Price grabbed a shotgun and pointed it at his wife. After she tried to take the shotgun away from him, he spun it around and struck her in the arm with it. After going to a hospital, it was discovered Price's wife suffered a broken arm in the altercation.

While second-degree domestic battery is typically not a Class B felony, 2nd Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tom Haynes said Price was convicted of third-degree domestic battery in 2016, enhancing his most recent charge.
