Klamath man accused of abusing toddler

Herald and News - 1/9/2018

A Klamath Falls man has been arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a 2-year-old girl last April.

Phillip Jesse Belcher Jr., 33, was arrested Friday for an incident April 30, 2017, in Klamath County.

Belcher allegedly molested the victim’s genitals and, during the offense, injured the girl. The victim was known to Belcher, but court records did not describe their relationship. Belcher was indicted Jan. 4 and arrested the next day.

He pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree criminal mistreatment and third-degree assault. Attorney Marcus Costello was appointed to represent Belcher and his next scheduled court date is Jan. 16 before Judge Marci Adkisson.

If convicted, Belcher faces at least 75 months in prison. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
