Man pleads guilty to kicking a household member, causing laceration to spleen

Telegraph - 1/11/2018

Jan. 11--EDWARDSVILLE -- A judge Wednesday sentenced a Granite City man with a long history of domestic violence to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to kicking a household member in the abdomen, causing a laceration to her spleen.

Edmond K. Hill, 51, pleaded guilty to domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery and was sentenced to two consecutive prison terms of six years. He may get a day off for each "good" day he serves.

Assistant State's Attorney Kerry Davis told Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli that the victim had to be rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. She said the victim would have testified, had there been a trial.

Records show Hill was charged with domestic battery for hitting the victim in the head Aug. 13. While that case was pending, he was charged Sept. 19 with aggravated domestic battery for kicking the woman.

Court records also show that three different women have filed for orders of protection against Hill.

Hill has a record dating to 1984 when he was convicted of burglary. He also has conviction for violation of probation, two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated criminal sex assault, failure to register as a sex offender, violating an order of protection and six misdemeanors.
