Nibley man suspected of sexually abusing child

A 30-year-old man is in jail after he was arrested this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 10 within the last two months.

Carlos Pimentel was taken into custody Jan. 9, and on Thursday, he was formally charged in 1st District Court with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony offense. Pimentel was reportedly found in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest so he is also facing drug charges.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said the charges are connected to one incident, but the investigation is ongoing.

Pimentel made a video appearance before the judge on Thursday and is expected to return to the courtroom on Jan. 22.
