BRIEF: Attorney hired to head new Rockford domestic violence/human trafficking office

Rockford Register Star - 1/17/2018

Jan. 17--ROCKFORD -- Jennifer Cacciapaglia will start Monday as manager of the new Mayor's Office of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention at a salary of $82,000, the city said in a news release Tuesday.

She will coordinate law enforcement, civic and advocacy service groups to battle human trafficking and domestic violence. In Rockford, domestic violence accounts for about 30 percent of violent crime, Rockford Police Chief Dan O'Shea has said.

Cacciapaglia co-founded Rockford Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation. She also serves as education coordinator and is a trained facilitator for The Amanda Reed Foundation, created to educate young people about unhealthy relationships that can escalate into lethal violence.

Cacciapaglia was previously an assistant state's attorney in Winnebago County and a Rockford city attorney. She most recently worked as an attorney for Metro Enforcement.

Mayor Tom McNamara said Cacciapaglia has a "depth of experience with these difficult topics that is unmatched in the area." He added, "Safety is my top priority, and we can't have a safe community if people don't feel safe in their homes."
