Logan man may get life on child sex abuse conviction

The Herald Journal - 1/18/2018

Logan man Troy Richman, 51, may very well spend the rest of his life in prison after his conviction on child sex abuse charges.

Richman pleaded guilty in November to two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, and one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

Judge Kevin Allen said his recommendation to the parole board will be that they never allow Richman to be released from prison.

“They (the victims) should never have to see you outside of prison walls ever again — that is the least we can do as a society, and I hope we can do more than that as a community by celebrating their courage,” Allen said.

Richman was sentenced to three terms of imprisonment — 15 to life for the aggravated sexual abuse of a child, six years to life on a second identical charge, and one to 15 years to be served for forcible sexual abuse.

Each term is to be served consecutively, requiring him to serve more than 20 years before he is considered for parole.

The two young women stood together and faced their abuser in court, each telling both him and the judge what impact sexual abuse had on their lives.

One said she lived a nightmare for 17 years, alone and afraid.

“Life in prison is too good for you, but today will be the last day you take control of my life,” she said.

The other young woman said her only desire was to feel safe again.
