Third annual Duck Derby Festival to quack out child abuse

The Daily Siftings Herald - 4/2/2018

March 30--The month of April has been designated as a month to raise awareness for abuse prevention.

Staff with the Percy and Donna Malone Child Safety Center will be doing their part by hosting its third annual Duck Derby on Saturday, April 7. The PDMCSC is holding the gathering in conjunction with Dawson Education Cooperative. Proceeds from the derby will be going towards assisting the center in their work.

The ducks are available for $5 for a single, $20 for five, $50 for 12 or $100 for 25. Checks must be made out to the PDMCSC. There will be a directory available the day of the derby to locate ducks with names and numbers.

This year, students have assisted in the fight against abuse by helping to sell the ducks.

The derby will begin at 10 a.m. at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex. The ducks will be put into the pond to be propelled to a boat at the center.

Whoever places first will be gifted a "Treat Yourself" spa package from a variety of local establishments. With an $850 value, the set includes small area laser hair removal from Compass Healthcare, salon products and three Gossip Shop haircuts, a manicure and pedicure from OP Nails, and a 50-minute massage from licensed massage therapist Pam Wilson.

The second place winner will receive a, valued at $750, two-night condo stay as part of a Hot Springs Staycation package. The condo is on Lake Hamilton, and be able to sleep eight people. As part of the deal, equipment rental is included, along with four day passes for the Mid-America Science Museum and two Magic Springs day passes. Two $25 gift cards for Dolce Gelato and the Bleu Monkey restaurant close the package.

A Fishing Outfitters package will be awarded to third place. It is valued at $450 and includes a Lowrance X50 Dual Search Sonar Fish Finder, a Lifetime 55-quart High Performance Cooler, and a Wal-Mart gift card for $100.

Besides the ducks, there will be food, music, games, bounce houses, door prizes, face painting, and a dunking booth.

Besides the aforementioned businesses, other sponsors and partners are Alumacraft, Arkadelphia Public Schools, DancePraize, Junior Auxilary, Baptist Health, Southern Bancorp, Bank of the Ozarks, Citizens Bank and Rep. Richard Womack.

Additional information can be obtained at (870) 403-6879 or www.pdmcsc.org. Both links can also serve as a way to purchase ducks.
