BRIEF: Newton man arrested for sex assault of girl

April 11--A Newton man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Catfish D. Cottrell, 19, is charged with third-degree sexual abuse after the Newton Police Department and Iowa Department of Human Services completed an investigation on the case.

The alleged assault was reported to have taken place at the victim's residence, where Cottrell had been staying. The victim told a friend she had been assaulted by Cottrell during the school district's spring break, the week of March 26. Cottrell admitted to officers he had sexually assaulted the victim one time in her bedroom.

He turned himself in at 11 p.m.March 28 at the Newton Police Department. While speaking with officers, Cottrell said he was obsessed with sex and is addicted to it. He was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail where he is currently being held on $10,000 bond.
