'Toss Out Child Abuse' cornhole tourney a success

Stuart News - 4/16/2018

Thirty-four teams competed in Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation's second annual "Toss Out Child Abuse" charity cornhole tournament March 10 at Walking Tree Brewery.

Entrants participated in one or two ability levels that were determined by the results of qualifying rounds. Winners in the Level A more experienced category were the I'd Hit That team of Katie Beason and Kyle Malone. John Zorc and Mark Zorc of the Amateur Hour team took the top prize in Level B.

All proceeds from the event benefit local projects for the prevention of child abuse.

John Pertile of bagboards.net from St. Petersburg managed the double-elimination tournament and served as master of ceremonies. Sponsors included MBV Engineering, Edlund Dritenbas Binkley Architects, National Bank of Commerce, Trusted Insurance Professionals, Charlotte Terry Real Estate Group of Alex MacMillan, Armfield-Wagner, The Ostrom Group, Schlitt Services, an anonymous donor, and others. John Binkley was the chair of the event.

The Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation is a charitable 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. It was founded in 2001 exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to aid in the prevention of child abuse. Because members believe every child in their community should have the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and strong, the Foundation funds local projects in pursuit of this goal.

Exchange Club of Indian River has provided the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism since 1973. It is affiliated with America's service club, the National Exchange Club. Members meet for lunch at noon Wednesdays at C.J. Cannon's in Vero Beach. Meetings feature programs on a wide range of business, government and civic, charity, personal, and professional topics. The club also is a partner in the Vero Beach Air Show.
