BRIEF: Woman pleads guilty after failing to register

April 18--MUSKOGEE -- The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced Monday a Tahlequah woman pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender.

The indictment alleged that from June 2017 until Dec. 19, 2017, Denise Sue Watie, 44, traveled in interstate commerce and knowingly failed to register and update her registrations as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

According to reports, Watie was found living in Colorado and last registered as a sex offender in May 2016.

In 2005, Watie was convicted by a jury in Tulsa County for sexually abusing a minor child.

According to authorities, the suspect admitted to residing unregistered in Colorado for nearly six months.

The crime is punishable by not more than 10 years' imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000 or both.
