Child abuse suspect faces 140 years in prison

A 29-year-old Perris man was convicted April 12 of sexually abusing two small children in Chino and Perris during an eight-year span, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney' office.

Alberto Chavez is facing a maximum of 140 years in state prison when he is sentenced inside a West Valley Superior Courtroom in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, June 1.

He was convicted on one felony count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, two felony counts of sexual intercourse or sodomy on a child 10 years old or younger, three felony counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration on a child 10 years old or younger, and two felony counts of lewd acts on a child, said spokesman Christopher Lee.

The case was investigated by the Chino Police Department with help from the West Valley Division support staff, Mr. Lee added.
