Man receives 15 years for 2016 rape of teen girl

The Jonesboro Sun - 6/7/2018

LEPANTO - A Lepanto man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old, with the mother's knowledge, in 2016.

Trevor Rogers, 22, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and given an additional 10 years suspended sentence, according to court documents.

In October 2016, investigators talked to Rogers' victim, her mother and Rogers. The victim, 13, said she had sex with Rogers five to six times in one month, and that she met him one day after school when her mom, Martena Stroup-Brewington, 38, Lepanto, picked her up from school, according to an affidavit from 2nd Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington's office.

The investigator spoke with Brewington, who said she knew they had sex, and while she didn't want Rogers around her daughter, she didn't want to press charges against him, according to the affidavit. A Crimes Against Children case worker met with the victim, and had previously obtained a report on the situation, in which it was alleged Rogers, Brewington and the victim all smoked marijuana together, followed by Brewington watching her daughter have sex with Rogers, according to the affidavit.

All parties involved denied those allegations, but an interview with Rogers yielded more information about Brewington's involvement.

Rogers told investigators he thought the victim was 17, and that Brewington drove him and the victim around gravel roads in an SUV while they had sex in the back seat, in addition to giving him a condom, according to the affidavit.

Rogers also said two of her friends were in the car when this happened, according to the affidavit, which also states the two friends corroborated Rogers' account.

When asked why Brewington would allow him to have sex with her daughter, Rogers said Brewington wanted to have sex with him, too, according to the affidavit.

When asked why he didn't stop having sex with the victim when he found out she was only 13, Rogers said he had already had sex with her, and they were a "couple," according to the affidavit.

Brewington was sentenced to two years in prison on March 27 for permitting child abuse in a plea deal. She was originally charged with being an accomplice to rape.
