Elder Abuse Awareness event planned for Friday, June 15

The Adult Protective Unit of the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services will host its annual Elder Abuse Awareness event on Friday, June 15, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Athens Public Library, 30 Home St. Speakers will be Debbie Gibson, court administrator of the Athens County Juvenile/Probate Courts.

According to a press release, the goal of the event is to highlight a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by an aging population, to provide information on how to help reduce incidents of violence toward elders, and to promote an increase in reporting incidents of abuse throughout the county.
