Cherokee County man found guilty of molestation

Jacksonville Daily Progress - 6/14/2018

June 13--On Tuesday in the 369th Judicial District Court of Cherokee County, Jose Trevino was found guilty of sexually molesting a child family member, according to officials.

The victim, who shall remain nameless, confronted her accuser and testified about the multiple times that Trevino crept into her room while she was sleeping and would molest her.

After being found guilty, the jury sentenced Trevino to 18 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The maximum possible sentence is 20 years.

The defendant blamed pornography and alcohol for his acts and claimed that he couldn't remember several of the occurrences.

The District Attorney's Office would like to give special thanks to Detective Kelly Ray of the Cherokee County Sherriff's Office and the staff at the Children's Advocacy Center of Cherokee and Anderson Counties. It is because of their diligent execution of their duties that this case was successfully prosecuted.

The Honorable Judge Michael Davis presided over the case. The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Eric M. Felux of Whitehouse and Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Richey of Rusk. The defendant was represented by Jim Williams, of Bullard.

"We were successful because everyone did their duty, but mostly, because a little girl showed tremendous bravery," said District Attorney Elmer C. Beckworth Jr.
