BRIEF: Man sentenced in Tama sex abuse case

Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier - 7/22/2018

July 22--TAMA -- A Tama man had been sentenced to probation for having inappropriate contact with a child.

Authorities allege 70-year-old William Harold Purk II had contact with the girl in 2016 while the girl was 8 or 9 years old. The incidents happened at his home and at Manatt's Landing, a park on the Iowa River in Tama.

He was arrested in May 2017 for second-degree sexual abuse, indecent exposure, lascivious acts with a child, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and other charges.

On Friday, Purk pleaded to a single count of luscious acts, a felony, as part of a plea arrangement that dismissed the other charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison suspended to five years of probation with sex offender treatment.

Purk will also have to register as a sex offender.
