BRIEF: Tennessee football player dismissed after domestic abuse charge

Chattanooga Times Free Press - 7/23/2018

July 23--KNOXVILLE -- A Tennessee football player has been dismissed from the team after he was arrested on charges of domestic abuse and false imprisonment, a team spokesman confirmed Monday.

Ryan Thaxton, a sophomore linebacker and defensive lineman, had been suspended following his July 15 arrest.

Head coach Jeremy Pruitt said on Wednesday that there would be more answers "once we gather all the information."

"We're not going to condone it," Pruitt said on Wednesday in Atlanta at SEC Media Days. "We're not going to tolerate it."

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Thaxton did not appear in any games as a true freshman in 2017. He was considered a three-star prospect coming out of high school.

Thaxton was scheduled for arraignment on Monday morning.
