Boone man charged with sexually abusing 12-year-old girl for more than a year

Ames Tribune - 8/2/2018

Aug. 02--A Boone man was arrested Tuesday after authorities allege he sexually abused a pre-teen girl for over a year.

Roger Christopher McGhee, 32, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse-forcible sodomy, a class B felony, lascivious acts with a child-forcible sodomy, a class C felony, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor, and lascivious acts with a child-forcible fondling, a class D felony.

According to court documents, Ames Police officers first received a report in February 2018 from a 12-year old girl who alleged McGhee had been sexually abusing her for over a year. The victim allegedly told police McGhee touched her genitals and breasts with his hand, and made her touch his penis.

Documents also allege McGhee bound the victim to his bed with ankle and wrist straps, which she partially broke through while struggling to get free, and showed her pornographic images and movies while she was bound. Officers recovered straps similar to what the victim described.

Ames Police Cmdr. Geoff Huff said the victim gave a time range of the abuse between July 2016 through February of this year, but couldn't say how frequent the alleged abuse was during that time.

Police only arrested McGhee now because investigators had to take extra precautions in interviewing the victim and gathering evidence due to the nature of the alleged crime and the victim's juvenile status, he said.

Huff declined to specify what sort of relationship McGhee might have had with the victim, again citing the age of the victim and the sensitivity of the alleged crimes.

McGhee is being held at the Story County Jail on a $150,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to 42 years in prison.
