BRIEF: El Cerrito man arrested in undercover child sex abuse sting

Contra Costa Times - 8/6/2018

Aug. 06--EL CERRITO -- A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with with five felonies after he allegedly arranged to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex, authorities said.

John Vinoya, of El Cerrito, was charged Friday with attempted lewd act upon a child, burglary, enticing a minor online, and arranging to meet a minor for sex.

The charges stem from a series of online conversations between Vinoya and an undercover El Cerrito officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. Vinoya was arrested Thursday when he showed up at an El Cerrito home after arranging to meet and have sex with the purported teen girl there, a Contra Costa District Attorney news release says.

Vinoya remains in custody in lieu of $325,000 bail. His arraignment has been set for Monday morning in Richmond.

The bust is only the latest in Contra Costa where internet chats with cops posing as teens have landed men in jail, including a then-Vallejo elementary school teacher who was arrested in April after allegedly sending a photo of his genitals to a cop posing as a teen girl.
