McAlester News-Capital - 8/10/2018

Aug. 10--A local man and woman were arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting each other in the presence of two children, court documents state.

Bradley Ray Haynie, 42, of Krebs, was charged July 27 with felony child abuse by injury and misdemeanor domestic assault and battery in presence of minor, according to documents filed by the office of District 18 District Attorney Chuck Sullivan.

Documents show Megan Hailey Kelley, 34, of Krebs, was charged July 27 with misdemeanor domestic assault and battery in presence of minor.

Jail records show Haynie was being held as of Thursday in the Pittsburg County Jail on a $25,000 bond with Kelley being held on a $2,500 bond.

According to a police report prepared by Krebs Police Officer Courtney Smith, she was dispatched to a residence on Northwest Ash Street in Krebs in reference to a domestic assault.

After arriving on scene, Smith spoke with Kelley, who told the officer that she and Haynie had got into an argument while she was trying to leave, the affidavit states.

Smith then spoke with Haynie, who was in the bedroom of the residence and told the officer that Kelley assaulted him in front of two children and that he was trying to go to sleep and she kept coming into the bedroom and would not leave him alone, the police report states.

The affidavit states that Haynie told the officer that one of the children began to hit him as well after the child watched what Kelley was doing to him. Haynie also told the officer that the child poured lighter fluid onto him and put his hand into his mouth and the child cut his finger on his tooth, the affidavit states.

Haynie told Smith that Kelley accused him of biting the child's finger and that she began hitting him with an extension cord, the affidavit states.

Smith wrote in her report that she again spoke with Kelley, who told the officer that Haynie had been at work all day and "was not acting right" when he came home and was being irate.

Kelley told the officer that the two began to argue and that Haynie gave her money for a hotel room for the night and she was in the bedroom trying to get clothes for the kids so that they could leave, the report states.

According to Kelley's statement to the officer, Haynie then began to yell at them and became physical with her while she was still trying to gather clothes out of the bedroom.

Kelley told the officer that is when Haynie kicked her in the side and grabbed her before the child began to hit Haynie. Kelley grabbed an extension cord and began to hit Haynie with it so that she and the children could get away, the affidavit states.

Smith wrote in her report that she observed several marks and bruises on Haynie's arms, which he stated were caused by Kelley. The officer also wrote that she observed a red scratch on Kelley's arm, which she told the officer she had no clue how she got, the report states.

The officer also noted in her report that she did not see any visible evidence of an assault on the woman's sides.

A family member of the children was contacted to come take care of the children before the pair was arrested and transported to the Pittsburg County Jail, the affidavit states.
