LETTERS: Proper child care awaits

Peace Arch News - 11/30/2018

Editor:

The B.C. government is making excellent progress on making child care more affordable and beginning to work on improving wages for early childhood educators.

However, access to quality child care is still an issue due to lack of licensed spaces. Almost everyone knows someone – grown children, family members, neighbours and friends – who desperately needs access to licensed child care.

Waiting lists for licensed spaces can be year-long, leaving families no choice but to use unlicensed care.

B.C. has new provincial grants aimed at creating mores licensed child care spaces. I want to see newly elected civic governments working with the provincial government to create more licensed child-care spaces. I'd like to see local governments and school districts making public land available for modular buildings to help quickly create new quality child care.
