District to offer services at three Family Centers

Valley Morning Star - 2/20/2018

The district will be introducing Family Centers at three locations beginning Monday, Feb. 26. The centers will provide counseling and social services, as needed, for students.

Conducted in a family setting, these services will strengthen the partnership between the family and the district, by providing counseling after regular school hours.

The concept calls for a team ? to include two counselors, a social worker, and a parental engagement specialist ? at each location that will work collaboratively to provide comprehensive counseling, social services, and referrals to outside agencies, as needed, according to the district's Counseling Coordinator Eddie Errisuriz, who also oversees the district's 504 and Dyslexia Programs.

Errisuriz explained that referrals for these services will be made by school administrators and counselors. Teachers may refer students through the administrator and/or counselor as well. Parents will also be able to walk-in on a self-referral basis.

The following sites have been designated to provide these services. Hours of operation and locations are as follows:

Mondays and Wednesdays and

Miller Jordan Middle School and San Benito Riverside Middle School, 5-8 PM

Tuesdays and Thursdays

San Benito High School, 5-8 PM.
