Decorah woman charged for allegedly helping fugitive parents

Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier - 5/22/2018

May 22--DECORAH -- A Decorah woman was been charged with allegedly helping a wanted South Carolina man while he was on the run with his wife and their toddler daughter.

Tami Ann Linne, 56, was charged with accessory to a felony, which is a misdemeanor, according to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies allege Linne assisted William Eugene Ray, 44, and Jessica Louise Ray, 36, who allegedly fled Camden, S.C., in April with their 2-year-old daughter, Dakota, in violation of a Department of Social Services safety plan. They also took a van, which William Ray owned but put up as collateral to a bail bond company, according to media reports.

According to court records, Linne placed a CraigsList ad seeking help around the house, and the Rays and their daughter came to the home on April 19. Linne allegedly learned William Ray had an outstanding theft warrant in South Carolina two days later, but she continued to house him.

The Rays were detained outside of Decorah on Thursday, and their daughter was turned over to the Iowa Department of Human Services. William Ray gave a Decorah address paperwork associated with his arrest.

William Ray is being held on a $10,000 bond, and Jessica Ray's bond was set at $1,250 cash only. Both remained in the Winneshiek County Jail as of Tuesday.
