BRIEF: Salvation Army offers child care after Early Learning Center suddenly closes

Journal Star - 9/6/2018

Sept. 05--PEORIA -- The Salvation Army Child Care Center is extending a helping hand to the parents affected by the sudden closing of the Early Learning Center over the weekend.

The Early Learning Center at 7411 N. University St. closed Saturday without warning, leaving parents and employees scrambling to make other arrangements.

"We would offer parents who have already paid through September a place for their children," said Frances Green, director of The Salvation Army Child Care Center. "All we ask is that they show proof of payment through a receipt from the center and we will be happy to work with them and get their children enrolled here."

The Child Care Center will accept children between 6 weeks and 5 years old, Major Jesse Collins said in a news release Wednesday.

The Salvation Army has one of the oldest continuously-running child care centers in Peoria, located in the North Valley adjacent to its divisional headquarters. The center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and provides meals and a "developmentally appropriate" pre-K curriculum.

For more information about The Salvation Army Child Care Center or to enroll a child in the program, contact Frances Green at 655-7283.
