Glenn County Public Health to hold two more free flu vaccine clinics

Oct. 23--Glenn County Public Health will be offering two more free flu vaccine clinics this month.

According to a press release, the annual vaccination is the best method to prevent or lessen the effects from the flu.

The clinics provide free influenza vaccines to people 6 months of age or older.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness and, at times, can lead to hospitalization or even death, according to a press release.

In addition to the vaccine, there are other steps that can be taken to help prevent the flu, colds and other contagious illnesses:

Cover one's nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue in the trash after use.

*

Wash hands often with soap and waters. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

*

Avoid touching one's eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

*

Stay home when ill and attempt to limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.

Flu vaccination clinics

Willows -- Oct. 25, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Glenn County Office of Education's Grapevine Conference Room, 311 S. Villa Ave.

Orland -- Oct. 31, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Glenn Success Square Conference Room, 131 E. Walker.

If one is unable to attend one of the clinics, the vaccine is also provided by some doctors' offices, medical clinics and pharmacies. For a listing of sites that provide the flu vaccine, visit flush.healthmap.org.
