Mid Shore Mediation Center celebrates Partners in Peace

EASTON ? Supporters of the Mid Shore Community Mediation Center (MSCMC) came out recently to recognize key community members who help the organization carry out their mission.

Awards were presented to the Honorable Jo Ann D. Asparagus with the Caroline County Domestic and Juvenile Court, Dr. James Bell with Dorchester County Public Schools, and the Talbot Association of Clergy and Laity for their roles as ?peacemakers' in the communities MSCMC serves.

In addition, Charles Bohn was awarded Volunteer of the Year. "We deeply appreciate everyone's commitment to our work and we are delighted that so many believe in the power of mediation," said Cynthia Jurrius, executive director for the Mid Shore Community Mediation Center.

The keynote speaker was Glenn Fueston, executive director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention. Director Fueston shared the Governor's commitment to the work of community mediation across the State of Maryland, noting especially the progress made with the Justice Reinvestment Initiative. The evening was sponsored by Shore Bancshares, Monteray Farms, Steven Doehler, Tom and Cathy Hill (Llandaff Family Foundation), Rob Ketcham, and The Tidewater Inn where the event was held.

"This special event would not have been possible without the support of these sponsors," said Linda Webb, LCSW, Mid Shore Community Mediation Center's board president. "We were grateful for their generosity as it enabled us to honor community partners who recognize and value the importance of our work. The Mid Shore Community Mediation Center believes that with productive dialogue, relationships can be built and rebuilt helping to reduce violence and recidivism. The ultimate goal is to make our community a better place.
