Press of Atlantic City - 12/16/2017

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office was awarded $736,769 to plan and implement a program addressing youth violence, as well as gang and gun violence.

The money was awarded as a part of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Programs 2017 Safe and Thriving Communities Planning and Collaboration Program.

On Friday, Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae announced the Cumberland Collective To Help Reserve Inequality and Violence Everywhere Initiative, which will be funded for years.

Webb-McRae said the CC THRIVE Initiative will utilize multiple agencies within the county to address issues and develop strategies to reduce gang and gun-related violence among 10- to 25 year-olds in the cities of Bridgeton, Millville and Vineland.

Cumberland County was one of five communities to receive the grant. The others were Anne Arundel County, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia; Gary, Indiana; and St. Louis, Missouri.
