The Backyard is an academic tutorial program designed to allow students to explore science and social skills for children with a developmental or physical disability. Children learn about animals, discovering that each one has a preferred habitat with a particular kind of climate. They can experiment to see what happens when animals interact. Other activities acquaint students with the concept of life cycles, where they can see a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. Activities in the Teacher's Guide focus on sequencing, spatial relationships, identifying similarities and differences, using elaborative vocabulary of feeling words and movement words. It comes with a custom overlay for use with the IntelliKeys (see separate entry), and activities in the Teacher's Guide discuss using the program with special needs students. This program is available on diskette and is designed to be TouchWindow accessible (see separate entry). COMPATIBILITY: Macintosh or IBM and compatibles.
