--- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: Safety device to allow individual in wheelchair to practice doing wheelies independently. Support device is mounted to a ceiling beam with two large metal eyelets screwed into the beam. Two nylon tensile strength webbing straps with swivel hooks on each end are attached to the eyelets. Pipe buckles are attached to the bottom ends which are attached to the handgrips on the back of the wheelchair. The length determines the effectiveness of supporting the chair when it is not a a stable wheelie position: the straps need to support the chair from falling backwards but there needs to be enough slack to allow the chair to go back to where the chair is balanced over the rear wheels. SKILLS REQUIRED: Assembly. AUTHOR: Dutton, Nancy, et al. TITLE: Wheelie Aide REF: Journal article: Physical Therapy, Vol 59 No 1, January 1979: pp 35-36. 1979.
