DO IT YOURSELF ENTRY --- PURPOSE: To enable a child with communication disabilities to say when she needs to go to the washroom. A small recorder, available at Radio Shack, was used to pre-record the statement "I need to go to the washroom." A recorded doorbell sound was added as an attention-getter. To enable the girl to control playback, the device was adapted with a bonded-on, wrap-around plastic pad, which in turn had a small nipple bonded on the underside that engages the "play" button only. The device was fitted to a neoprene glove, which comes off and on using a Velcro strip on the seam running down from the little finger. Only light contact with her other hand is required to cause the bell to ring and the statement to be made. TITLE: The WristTalker. WEB SITE: Workshop Solutions at http://www.workshopsolutions.com. REF: The originator, Tom Jeary, can be contacted at tlj@golden.net.
